Veneers in Turkey, without the Turkey teeth

What veneers really are, how they differ from crowns, which type suits you, what one trip to Antalya involves, and what it costs. Written for UK patients, by a clinic that says so.

Straight answers

Four things to know before anything else

A veneer is a thin shell

It's bonded to the front of a tooth. Only a small amount of enamel is removed, so most of your tooth stays.

A crown is not a veneer

For a crown, the tooth is shaped all the way round. Many "veneer" packages abroad are really crowns.

Usually one trip

About 5 to 7 days for porcelain, 2 to 3 nights for composite, if your teeth and gums are healthy.

It's for the long term

Porcelain veneers can't be "taken off" later. They need care, check-ups and, one day, replacing.

"Turkey teeth"

What went wrong for so many people, and how to avoid it

The phrase "Turkey teeth" became shorthand in the UK for very white, bulky smiles that don't look natural. Often the problem wasn't the country but the treatment: healthy teeth were filed down for crowns when the patient thought they were getting veneers.

In a 2022 British Dental Association survey, 86% of UK dentists said they had treated patients with problems after dental treatment abroad. That's a reason to choose carefully, not to panic.

Our approach as a clinic: we'd rather protect a healthy tooth than crown it, and we write down, tooth by tooth, whether you're getting a veneer, a crown or nothing at all.

Is it right for you?

Sometimes the honest answer is "not yet", or "not at all"

Veneers can make sense if

  • Your front teeth are chipped, worn or uneven in shape
  • Stains haven't responded to whitening
  • You have small gaps between front teeth
  • Your teeth and gums are healthy, and you'll keep up the care

Think again, or ask about alternatives, if

  • Your teeth are healthy and only a little yellow: whitening may be enough
  • Your gums bleed or you have untreated decay: that comes first
  • You grind your teeth at night and won't wear a guard
  • You're being offered 20+ crowns on healthy teeth, or pushed to decide fast

The trip

One visit to Antalya, in four steps

  1. From home

Send photos of your smile. A dentist says honestly what you need, and you get a written plan and price.

  2. Day one

Examination, X-ray and a digital design of your new smile. You agree the plan, tooth by tooth.

  3. Preparation

Teeth are prepared and scanned. You wear temporaries while the laboratory makes your veneers.

  4. Fitting

A try-in for shape and shade, then bonding, a check of your bite and a final review before you fly.

Common questions

Veneers in Turkey: quick answers

Are veneers in Turkey the same as Turkey teeth?

Not necessarily. "Turkey teeth" usually describes sets of crowns, where healthy teeth were filed down all the way round, sold as "veneers". A true veneer is a thin shell bonded to the front of the tooth, keeping most of it. Ask your clinic, tooth by tooth, which one you are getting.

How much do veneers cost in Turkey?

At Precious Dental an E-max laminate veneer is £300 per tooth and a composite veneer £125. Crowns are priced separately: an E-max full veneer (crown) £225 and a zirconia crown £150. Packages include the hotel and transfers. Prices vary between clinics, so compare written, itemised quotes.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for veneers?

Usually one trip. At Precious Dental porcelain veneers take about 5 to 7 days and composite veneers 2 to 3 nights. It depends on how many teeth are treated and whether anything needs treating first.

Are veneers permanent?

Porcelain veneers are a long-term commitment: enamel is removed to fit them, so the tooth will always need a veneer or crown afterwards. Veneers can last many years with good care, but they can chip, crack or come loose and may need replacing one day.

Can I have veneers on the NHS?

Usually not. The NHS says veneers, like teeth whitening and implants, are not usually available on the NHS, so in the UK they are normally private.
